Judy Nitsch '75 is well known in the WPI community for her distinguished career in civil engineering and her reputation for giving back. Legions of WPI students, mostly women, count Judy as a thoughtful and active mentor. She served 23 years on the WPI Board of Trustees—the first alumna elected to the board—16 of them as chair of the board's Facilities and Campus Infrastructure Committee. She has been recognized by the WPI Alumni Association not only for her outstanding career accomplishments but also for her service to WPI, and she is only one of a handful of alumni who have received all four career and service awards from the association.
Judy is also generous with her treasure. The Nitsch/Magliozzi Green Roof atop East Hall bears her name and the name of her husband, the late Tony Magliozzi, as does the entrance to the Sports and Recreation Center—both spaces honoring the couple's significant financial contributions to WPI, some through planned gifts including a bequest as part of her estate.
"I've always been interested in facilities," Judy says. "Others have other interests — scholarships, professorships—but I wanted to make sure WPI had the money to build and maintain its facilities. My bequest supports that long-time interest."
